OGT Cigars’ most celebrated quarter one exclusive is returning this week, but in a new way and certainly one of the best iterations! Our St. Paddy’s Day exclusive Bleak Midwinter is returning to Oak Glen Tobacconist for the fourth year in a row, and with perhaps the biggest updates! The usual combination of tobaccos that make up the Bleak Midwinter cigar is a dark Maduro wrapper with a touch of Candela. Well, we did follow that format; however, the wrapper itself is a dark Brazilian Mata Fina wrapper, the same one one might find on cigars like the Chaffiot Freedom Fighter or the AJ Fernandez Bellas Artes. But that is not all! There are some other surprises about this year’s rendition! Let’s dive into it!

The original Bleak Midwinter was a 5×54 Torpedo, while the new Bleak Midwinter IV is a 5.5×56 box-pressed Belicoso. That’s right, for the first time ever, we have box pressed this cigar! The thicker ring gauge allows a heartier, fuller smoke in a bolder format. The blend, as I mentioned, has been updated slightly with a dark, textured Brazilian Mata Fina wrapper over a full Nicaraguan filler. The combination is an absolute masterpiece, one of my favorite cigars that spotlights a Mata Fina wrapper. At the foot and accented by a twist at the head, hints of candela contribute a sweet, creamy aspect.

Crafted exclusively for OGT Cigars, the Bleaker Midwinter IV is the perfect way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. It is, and has always been our official Saint Patrick’s Day Cigar. The term Bleak Midwinter is a nod to two things: the first being a peripheral reference to the famed Netflix show. The second is a sign of the seasons changing from a dark, cold, some might say, bleak temperature to a warmer spring. I have said many times, in colder, crisper weather, my palate seems to turn to darker, maduro blends, and Bleak Midwinter does just that, but in a most impressive way! But I can’t help but notice the impressive sweetness at the light up of the candela foot.
