Crowned Heads Blood Medicine B-Positive Maduro: A Darker Expression
The Blood Medicine Cigar is one of the most anticipated limited releases from Crowned Heads. After the success of the previously known ‘Event-only’ cigar, they have annually made it a limited edition. This year, however, they have created the Maduro version, the Crowned Heads Blood Medicine B Positive. Released in one size, this 6 x 52 Toro brings a new dimension to the Blood Medicine line, delivering more richness and intensity while retaining the character that made the blend so popular. While the internal recipe of binder and filler tobaccos—an Ecuadorian Connecticut-seed binder over Nicaraguan fillers—are the same, the wrapper is different, showcasing a Nicaraguan corojo Maduro leaf.
Jon Huber, co-founder and president of Crowned Heads, explained that the idea for B-Positive started with a desire to create a darker, meatier expression of Blood Medicine. Broadleaf and San Andrés wrappers were tested but didn’t quite capture the right balance. Once the team landed on the corojo wrapper, it became clear that it transformed the blend, lifting it into something new while keeping the heart of the line intact.
Production is limited to just 2,400 boxes of 12. The Blood Medicine story stretches back to 2015, when Crowned Heads first introduced an event-only cigar under the name “Snake Oil.” After a trademark conflict, it was renamed Blood Medicine and grew into a cult favorite among fans. Over the years, it has appeared in various limited forms, produced by different factories, until settling at D’Hatuey Tabacos S.A. (formerly TacaNicsa). The line has steadily evolved, and the B-Positive now marks a milestone—both in flavor and in presentation—for one of Crowned Heads’ most intriguing projects.
