Among the various creations from Steve Saka Bronzeback Robusto is by far one of the highlights! The Dunbarton Umbagog Bronzeback Robusto is one of a few NEW releases from the 2025 PCA Trade Show that Saka Showcased. Made by Dunbarton Cigars under the watchful eye of Steve, this cigar is built for the smoker who values performance over packaging but an uncompromising experience. It’s rugged, unpretentious, and all about the experience. You’re not getting bells and whistles here—you’re getting a hard-working cigar that delivers every time.
The Bronzeback was first introduced in 2024 as a bolder, more pepper-forward version of the original Umbagog line. While the first release came only in a 5×48 size, the new Robusto offers a touch more heft at 5×52. What makes it special is the wrapper leaf—a unique section of the broadleaf plant called “2LS.” These leaves grow just below the top “Medium” primings, and they give off a darker hue and a distinctly different flavor. They’re not as sweet as traditional broadleaf wrappers, but they pack a peppery edge that adds serious character to the blend.
Right from the light, the Bronzeback Robusto hits with black pepper and a touch of dry earth. That quickly gives way to leathery richness, sweet tea, and toasted walnuts. As it develops, baking spices and a fresh breadiness roll in, followed by subtle hints of dried fruit. The finish lingers with a mellow sweetness that balances out the earlier spice, making it both bold and smooth from start to finish. It’s a medium to full-bodied smoke that delivers depth without overpowering the palate.
