Curivari Cigars and Beunaventura Cigars

Curivari Cigars and Buenaventura Cigars are the newest brands to arrive at Oak Glen Tobacconist. However, they are not a ‘new’ brand on the market. They have been around for twenty plus years and boast some of the boldest flavors presented at an insanely great price! The factory is in Nicaragua, and the brand specializes in Cuban-type flavors presented in medium-full-bodied blends. As a way to understand better, here is a brand break down of their portfolio and what we offer at Oak Glen Tobacconist. I have marked each blend that is a personal favorite with a * Just because I am a nerd about this brand.

*Curivari Reserva Limitada Cafe Noir 54. One of the most popular from Curivari Cigars, the Cafe Noir is a dark, bold expression of their ‘Signature’ Cuban-seed Nicaraguan Maduro wrapped over choice Nicaraguan tobacco. The 54 refers to the size: a 5.5×54 box press. It is spice-forward at light up with notes of roasted nuts, espresso, caramel, sandalwood, and light sweetness. By far, it is meant for those who enjoy a full Nicaraguan Maduro.

Curivari Sun Grown Maduro 654. This cigar uses a beautiful Sun Grown Habano Maduro wrapper over all Nicaraguan fillers. It starts off on the stronger side and transitions to a more medium to medium-full strength. While it also starts off on the spicy side, the Sun Grown Maduro is a bit sweeter, with vegetal notes, cocoa, and leather, and a light sweetness that transitions as the thirds progress. Likewise, the 654 references 6×54 box press toro.

Curivari Seleccion Privada Maduro Eminentes. Elegance is the word that comes to mind with this cigar. It’s more chocolate-forward than the others. The Maduro Eminentes is wrapped in a Nicaraguan Maduro wrapper and blended in a 5.5×52 vitola. Light pepper spice greets you at the light up with earth, coffee, dark chocolate, hints of nuttiness, and a lingering sweetness. While this has less aggressive spice, it has more sweetness, and the balance is impressive.

*Buenaventura Cremas C200 Robusto. Massive flavors when paired with a coffee. I love this cigar, and it is so underrated among Connecticut cigars. Presented in a 5×54 Parejo, the Cremas C200 delivers a light, white-peppered roasted nuttiness, creamy consistency, a touch of white chocolate, and light sweetness. I have been on a kick with this cigar, and it is magic with coffee.

*Buenaventura BV560. I marked this one because it is Mallory’s favorite. Also, according to Curivari Cigars, this is their best seller. The Buenaventura BV560 is a 5×56 Box press and delivers very impressive flavors. The Habano wrapper is gorgeous, and you can expect notes of black pepper, caramel, medium roast coffee, nutmeg, cinnamon, leather, and a touch of sweetness.

All in all, after you smoke a Curivari or Buenaventura cigar and then you see the price, it causes a double-take. I am very impressed with this brand, and I think it should be experienced by many!
