Black Label Trading Co Orthodox

It’s a crazy busy but exciting time at Oak Glen Tobacconist! The new Black Label Trading Orthodox is shipping out! This is one of the most anticipated releases from BLTC. This is a completely new blend crafted at Oveja Negra, and is the Q2 Limited release. Unfortunately, Orthodox is a one and done, so if you were lucky enough to pick it up, this is a very special blend. If you haven’t ordered your yet, don’t sleep on it! This cigar represents so much about what the brand is about! While I have loved the various inflections of Black Label and Black Works Studio from blends like Paper Crane, Poison Dart, S&R, and many others, Orthodox is the ultimate reminder of why people fall in love with the brand in the first place. BLTC Orthodox full, it’s bold, heavy, but at the same time, somehow refined and balanced. In a recent Press Release, James Brown, Owner and Blender, stated the following:

“Orthodox is really about Black Label getting back to its roots.” Says James. “We’ve done a lot over the last 10 years but at our core, we are about highlighting the strength & intensity of Nicaraguan tobacco. That’s what I went for with the Orthodox. It’s extremely bold with spice throughout the palate and nose. Its intensity is balanced by flavors of dark fruits, cherries, and raisins and finishes with star anise. This cigar is bold but very balanced and extremely complex.”

Released in 20 count boxes, the new limited cigar is produced in three different sizes.

• Black Label Trading Co Orthodox Corona Gorda 5×46

• Black Label Trading Co Orthodox Short Robusto 4.5×52

• Black Label Trading Co Orthodox Toro 5.75×50

The blend consists of a dark Mexican San Andres Wrapper, over the signature Ecuadorian binder, and a combination of Nicaraguan fillers. I had the opportunity to try this cigar at the trade show and absolutely loved it. As I said, this is the cigar you want to smoke from Black Label. The flavor intensity of the spicy, peppery start molds into a robust array of that raisiny, dried fruit palate that James talked about along with cocoa powder, hints of wood, leather, and mellow sweetness.
