Black Works Studio Paper Crane, New Release

Oak Glen Tobacconist just got back from the PCA 2024 trade show and returned with something extra special! Out of the newest releases from the show, one I was incredibly excited for is that NEW NEW from Black Works Studio! Introducing the Black Works Studio Paper Crane Connecticut! Released in two different sizes, amped up with a golden, Desflorado Connecticut wrapper, and fillers from Nicaragua, this box pressed gem is fantastic! Aside from Porcelain and Killer Bee Connecticut, there haven’t been many lighter shade cigars coming from the brand. Enter, the Black Works Studio Paper Crane. This is a limited release from the company and the first time it has ever appeared in the portfolio.

According to Owner and Blender, James Brown, he says, “The Paper Crane is a project I’ve been thinking about for several years. I’ve always wanted to do something with Ecuadorian Connecticut Desflorado wrapper. I love the flavor profile of this wrapper and of course its unique beautiful golden pink color. This cigar is extremely complex with a beautiful balance of light citrus notes on the palette, followed by delicate layers of spice on the retrohale and finish. It was these flavors that inspired the name and the artwork I created. Even though there are a lot of subtleties, it is still a full flavor medium strength cigar that lives up to what you expect from a BLK WKS cigar.”

The blend features an Ecuadorian Connecticut Desflorado wrapper. What is ‘Desflorado?’ It is a method in which the tobacco plant is ‘topped’ or chopped at the top. The purpose is to direct the nutrients and energy of the plant into the leaves instead of the flower that contains the seeds. It results, according to various sources, in a more potent, stronger leaf. Being that this is a Black Works Studio blend, I would expect a Connecticut cigar to have a fuller body and more ‘potency.’ Under the wrapper lies a Habano binder and fillers from Nicaragua. The Black Works Studio Paper Crane is released in two sizes: BLK WKS Paper Crane 5×46 Corona Gorda Box Press and BLK WKS Paper Crane 6×48 Toro Box Press.

The cigar is available now! Oak Glen Tobacconist is super excited to offer this ‘amped up’ Connecticut! Much like the Porcelain and the Killer Bee Connecticut, the BLK WKS Paper Crane is that shade cigar meant for Black Label and Black Works smokers. Paper Crane has more body and more flavor than one normally finds in a Connecticut cigar! Well done Oveja Negra on the NEW Black Works Studio Paper Crane!
