Chaffiot Cigars Hear No Evil Toro

There aren’t many African Cameroon Cigars on the market. And when I say that, I mean, true Cameroon. A high percentage of the seed is grown in Ecuador and it is common to see that leaf on recent cigars. Due to the expensive nature and perhaps scarcity, it is easier for a company to create a different blend. However, Chaffiot Cigars goes against the grain in many ways, this is one of them. Out of there trio core line, their Hear No Evil Toro and Robusto uses the authentic Cameroon leaf from Africa. Blended in Nicaragua, and based in Miami, the company has a strong lineup of intensely flavor forward cigars and the Hear No Evil is one of my favorites.

Wrapped in a natural shade colored African Cameroon wrapper, over a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan filler, Chaffiot Hear No Evil is a must for anyone who enjoys the unique tobacco. I would put the blend in the medium strength category while I can see why others might be tempted to place it at medium full. It’s a common thing, I have realized, to mistake notes like pepper or even textural fullness as ‘strong’. I think this cigar might edge toward that due to the texture, not so much pepper. But all in all, it is smooth, medium, and lightly sweet.

That brings us to flavor notes: The Chaffiot Hear No Evil Toro delivers a faint but satisfying spice on light up. I wouldn’t call it pepper, but there is a little somethin’-somethin’ that registers as spice. Notes of earth, cedar, mild citrus, pie crust, and a blanket covering of natural sweetness coat the palate. As the cigar burns, that citrus and cedar seem to move to the forefront. Overall the sweetness and full transitions speak volumes on this cigar. Out of the three blends they have created, Chaffiot Hear No Evil is probably the smoother of the three. While I hate to use that descriptive, I think it fits a little better than ‘mild.’ Chaffiot Cigars make some of my favorite cigars in the boutique world of things and this is a great example of one.
