Black Star Line Cigars Dark War Witch Robusto

Corojo 99. It is one of the richest flavored, non-Maduro tobaccos from Nicaragua. Complexity, sweetness, spice, and savoriness are just some notes from Corojo 99 tobacco. One might say that this Corojo hybrid is generally found in Aganorsa Leaf; it is a part of their signature profile. Initially, the Corojo seed came from Cuba, but through a hybrid version, Nicaragua was able to transform the flavor and tobacco into its 99 counterpart. Aganorsa supplies tobacco to many companies around the world, one that stands above others is Black Star Line cigars. If you look across their portfolio, you will find that the whole of production is manufactured at Aganorsa’s factory. Black Star Line Cigars has much to offer, from the bold Lalibela San Andres to War Witch Connecticut. However, in terms of power and flavor balance, the Dark War Witch Robusto perfectly expresses Corojo 99.

Sporting a medium-colored Corojo wrapper, Dark War Witch’ has a’s binder, and fillers are from Nicaragua. Although this is a full-body cigar, the strength is medium, edging to medium plus. I would further state that this is an anytime-of-day cigar. You can start your morning with a little bit of a kick, which is my preference, and pair this stick with coffee. In fact, black coffee is probably my ‘go to’ pairing with this cigar. Just pour it straight, maybe with a dash of sweeter creamer, preferably vanilla. Or you can enjoy it at the end of the day with a sweeter rum or even a slightly peppery bourbon. Not only will this blend stand up to stronger beverages, but it complements well with a diverse set of drinks.

Let’s talk flavor notes. There is an initial sweetness at light up, not overbearing but definitely there. That’s balanced with spice, maybe white pepper, maybe cinnamon? Cedar and earth aren’t far behind with more sweetness. As you continue through the cigar, an acute savoriness develops, followed by black tea and hints of spice on the retrohale. Toward the end, the savory spice takes over, with glimpses of toasted bread and brown sugar. What I appreciate about Corojo 99 is the myriad flavors and combinations of different blends. However, Black Star Line’s Dark War Witch expresses it in a way that stands above many others. I have returned to this cigar so many times this year and its a home run every time. Do yourself a favor, sit out on your back deck or patio, pour yourself a warm cup of coffee during the cold season, and light up a Dark War Witch Robusto; you won’t be disappointed.
