Winter season is here, and it looks to be a cold one. Generally, my smoking habits at this time of year turn to the ‘darker’ side of cigars. I find that rich, chocolatey Maduros hit the spot just right in the midst of the cold temperatures. The Limited Cigar Association seems to feel the same way because this month’s LCA plus cigar suggests just that. The first cigar released is the LCA Plus Mexican Hot Chocolate Cigar. We’ve seen their releases suggest specific flavor notes before, is the title well-represented? You will have to be the judge of that. I will say I had the opportunity to smoke this, and I can see where this cigar gets its name. I think it works. Let’s hear a little back story on this stick, shall we? Brian Desind released this statement on the Mexican Hot Chocolate Robusto:
“Let’s face it: January is cold. Mexican Hot Chocolate is a delightful winter treat sure to keep you
toasty. Mexican Hot Chocolate is known for being made with dark cocoa and cinnamon, and
once you smoke the cigar, you will see where it gets its name from! This 5×52 firecracker
features a Mexican San Andres wrapper over Nicaraguan filler and binder. This is the perfect
Robusto to keep warm with this winter!”
This 5×52 Robusto is encased with a very attractive San Andres Maduro wrapper from Mexico wrapped around a binder and fillers from Nicaragua. The gauge appears almost bigger than a 52 gauge, and the wrapper leaf is very textured and almost shiny with oil. The notes on this cigar are chocolate, a little earth, leather, a wood component, and a touch of cinnamon spice. But overall, I think the sweetness is the dominant tone. If you can pick up this medium-bodied delight, I suggest you treat yourself and warm your palate with the satisfying winter notes of the LCA Plus Mexican Hot Chocolate Cigar. This is a great cigar to close the year with, and welcome the new one!
