BLK WKS NBK Lizard King Event Only Barberpole

Black Works Studio is an art lab. So many excellent cigars with a flare for the exotic make up the portfolio of the brand BLK WKS. If you have lit up a Killer Bee Corona, a killer Bee Connecticut, or even a Green Hornet cigar, you know exactly what I am talking about. Several times through the year, they will release limited editions like Intergalactic Sumatra or the Hyena Cameroon. However, a few lesser-known cigars deserve equal time in the spotlight. I am speaking of none other than the ‘event only’ NBK Lizard King Barberpole cigar. This visually stunning stick offers something new to the aficionado’s experience, one that impresses the palate as much as the eye.

The first time I had the opportunity of smoking the NBK Lizard King was at our shop’s second anniversary party. When the words ‘event only’ appears in the title, that is usually the only time you can get your hands on it. Whether that puts more exclusivity and enjoyment on the performance of the cigar is up to you; however, I don’t think it hurts. The NBK Lizard King cigar offers dual wrappers of Ecuador Maduro and Ecuador Rojiso, twisting from the top to the closed foot cap at the end. The binder is a Habano leaf from Nicaragua with Nicaraguan fillers. The 5×50 Robusto is the only size produced for the blend, but it lends itself well. And to top it all off, it’s a box press, and as you know, I am a sucker for box press. James Brown, owner and blender for Black Label Trading and Black Works Studio, says this is like the NBK Habano, but it is also “An amped up version of the original with more strength and spice.”

Let’s talk flavor notes. Pepper is there. It is primarily on the initial Habano closed foot at light up and the retro. Let’s face it; the original NBK Robusto also has a decent amount of pepper. Is that the only note? By no means! It offers hints of charred oak and earth with waves of espresso, leather, a light sweetness, and a mustiness I can’t put my finger on. All in all, it’s a bevy of flavors, and in that particular combination, it’s a different experience. If you can get your hands on it, pair the NBK Lizard King with a sweeter, maybe even creamy, drink. Try a white Russian, a rum, or perhaps a coffee old fashioned; I

think those would work beautifully.

Currently, the BLK WKS NBK Lizard King cigar is available for purchase or in our ultimate Black Label and Black Works sampler pack, the Neon Tiger 10 pack. And this barber pole sitting next to the other three looks beautiful! Either way, this cigar is exceptional and, as usual, performs incredibly in the Black Works Studio portfolio.
