Casa Cuevas Sangre Nueva Double Perfecto 6×58

I have written about this cigar before, but not on this size. And besides, it seems to get better and better every time I smoke it. Alec Cuevas, the youngest male of the Cuevas family, blended the Casa Cuevas Sangre Nueva and released at the 2022 PCA trade show. This vitola, a 6×58 Double Perfecto, is the first of its kind to emerge from the Cuevas portfolio. Tapered on both ends, visually, the Perfecto offers a striking appearance. The Sangre Nueva cigar is wrapped in a luscious Ecuadorian Cameroon Wrapper, offering a sweet, earthy, woodsy, profile with underlining savoriness. The Binder is from Honduras and myriad fillers make up the leaves on the inside. Tobacco from the DR, Nicaragua, and even a Pennsylvania Broadleaf are inside this cigar. Perhaps, and this is just speculation on my part, but the Broadleaf might be giving this cigar its fuller body, while maintaining its medium-strength profile. Lastly, There is a sliver of Kentucky fire cured tobacco as well.

In regards to the name Sangre Nueva, which translates to ‘New Blood’, Alec Cuevas was quoted to say the following. “It represents all the experiences I’ve ever been through in this industry, from working behind the counter selling my fellow manufacturer’s products, to spending my summers learning all there is to know about our factory from a very young age. Sangre Nueva is a personal love letter to my family, who placed their faith in me to create something from scratch given my knowledge of tobacco.”

The small additive of KFC tobacco really makes this cigar pop. Trying a cold draw on this cigar is a must, there is literally nothing like it in this industry. That sweet smokey profile really comes through on the cold draw. It is anything but a ‘one note’ cigar when you light this up. As I mentioned, sweet notes of nutmeg, earth, roasted corn, hickory, and pleasant spice dance over the palate. The Casa Cuevas Sangre Nueva is on my list for one of the exceptional releases of 2022. Above the performance, this cigar is also a game changer with the combination of tobaccos blended together. For being a young blender in the industry, Alec Cuevas really got a running start!
