Black Label Trading Company Lawless Grand Toro

There are many different shades of tobacco and the names of such shades vary depending on the factory. Most commonly the average cigar consumer thinks of light, medium, dark, or Connecticut, Habano or sun-grown, and Maduro. Some think of Claro, Colorado Claro, and so on. If you are Matt Booth it comes to brown, medium brown, and dark brown. But that is Matt Booth. One shade rarely spoken of is Rosado. Put simply, Rosado translates as rose-colored. It not often seen in new world cigars, but certain companies like Davidoff, Fuente, Southern Draw, Dapper, and others have been known to use it. Rosado wrapper leaf is marked by the ‘reddish hue’ found on Cuban seed tobacco. Commonly, Rosado is found on Habano leaf, but sometimes Corojo or if you are Dapper Cigar Company on a Sumatra.

A great expression of Rosado is Black Label Trading Company’s Lawless. To look at this cigar, it appears almost Maduro in nature, but the faint reddish hue, and I say faint, is there nonetheless. The wrapper is a Habano Rosado grown under the natural cloud coverage of Ecuador. However, that doesn’t mean this cigar is mild. On the contrary, BLTC’s Lawless lands in the medium-plus to the stronger side, and deliveries a full-bodied smoking experience. The binder and fillers are from Nicaragua, I suspect a dash or two of Ligero tobacco to give it a kick. Put them all together and you get a rich-tasting smoke with notes of cedar, baking spice, earth, cinnamon, cocoa, and light creaminess.

I find Gordo Vitolas (6×60) to lose the intensity of flavor or the blend becomes too airy. However, this is not the case with Lawless. Black Label Trading Company does an excellent job at blending a Gordo size and the larger expression fits Lawless pretty well. This cigar is a great example of fine tobaccos that James Brown, owner and blender, uses in his unique blends. Unlike some of the more prestigious from Black Label, the Lawless cigar is a part of their core line and is available year round.
