I am excited to announce this month’s release for the OGT Cigar Society Membership. Blended by Tony Barrios of Stallone Cigars, we are sending out our exclusive Midnight Ride. Aptly named for the darkness of the wrapper leaf, this brilliant blend has been aging for some time and is ready to be smoked. The concept of this blend started last October, when Tony and I talked about doing a very special cigar using the same wrapper leaf found on his limited Clydesdale. Sporting a textured and rustic looking Nicaraguan Broadleaf, this special tobacco is found in AJ Fernandez’s factory in Esteli. The Clydesdale is a massive cigar, measuring 6.5×60. I wanted to bring the gauge and length down a bit and bump up the fullness. While this year has brought us exceptional blends from varying tobaccos, this is definitely a heavy hitting maduro. I am incredibly happy with the way this cigar turned out.
Last year, Tony blended us our Aniversario cigar, which won cigar of the year here at OGT. This year, the Midnight Ride is coming in hot, and I can’t wait for all our members to try it. The blend is a 5.5×54 box pressed brush foot. The first half inch of the cigar is binder and filler tobacco. You get to experience the transition of the inner tobaccos coming together with the wrapper leaf. But don’t let that fool you; from light up this cigar is intense. I don’t mean to hype anything up, but this is definitely in the running for cigars in my top five of the year. The richness of the Nicaraguan broadleaf, in conjunction with to double binder, and fillers, a decent amount of ligero, from Nicaragua just bring something extra special.
There is a blast of pepper, cedar, earth, sandalwood, and sweetness from light up, which transitions into a wave of dried fruits, caramel, leather, and maple-like molasses, followed by more sweetness and cocoa beans. As the cigar burns, it transitions into more dried fruit, cocoa, espresso, roasted almonds, and leather. This Stallone Cigar lands in the full flavored, medium to full strength, and full body for me. All in all, I seriously cannot stop smoking this gem.
How do you get this cigar? I highly encourage you to join the OGT Cigar Society to get a five-pack. You cannot get this cigar anywhere else, so it’s very special to our community. Priced at just $42.99 for the drop, this cigar comes out at less than $9 a cigar! For anyone who is a fan of Tony’s work or a fan of darker, fuller maduros, this is a must-try.
