Crowned Heads has a vast portfolio of cigars of various varieties. Some have taken the limelight over others, and some I feel might be a touch underrated. One such blend is their medium-to-full strength Maduro called Crowned Heads Jericho Hill, particularly in the Willy Lee size. Released in five sizes, this cigar shows another side of the brand, a stronger, more ‘full throttle’ blend in comparison to the other lines. While this is one of Jon Huber’s original cigars, I feel like it gets overshadowed by cigars like Mil Dias, La Pattissier, or even Juarez. It is no secret I am a fan of a ‘heavier’ cigars, and I feel like Crowned heads Jericho Hill offers quite a bit that others don’t.
According to Jon, her says, “Cash has long been an inspiration to me; not simply musically, but more of what he stood for as man–he was not only a rebel, but he had integrity and authenticity. That said, I didn’t want to do a literal ‘Man In Black’ cigar, but I found inspiration behind the veil of ‘Cocaine Blues.’ Buried in that song was the name, ‘Jericho Hill,’ which just struck a chord with me. Cocaine Blues is the story of a man named Willy Lee and the destructive path that his life takes, a path that includes killing a woman while under the influence of whiskey and cocaine. The unnamed sheriff who eventually catches Lee in Juarez, Mexico, comes from the town of Jericho Hill. The smoke is a full-throttle experience that assaults your palate at break-neck speed, races around your mouth for a hundred miles, and leaves your taste buds in a cloud of power, intensity, and excitement.”
The Five Sizes This Cigar is released in are
Crowned Heads Jericho Hill OBS (4 3/4 x 52)
Crowned Heads Jericho Hill .44S (5 1/8 x 44) Crowned Heads Jericho Hill Willy Lee (6 x 54) Crowned Heads Jericho Jackie Brown (5 x 56)
Crowned Heads Jericho Hill LBV (6 1/2 x 46)
Crowned Heads Jericho Hill uses a dark San Andres Maduro wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Nicaragua. Each size is presented in a soft box press format. I am partial to the Willy Lee vitola; a 6×54 Toro. The balance and strength work incredibly well in this size. When you light this cigar up, the flavor is immediate, with notes of white pepper, leather, and earth, followed by a touch of floral, charred oak, coffee, more leather, and a light earthy sweetness. The draw and burn are incredible. I feel like this cigar deserves a good pairing of bourbon or something from Tennessee, and a maybe a blast of Johnny Cash going on in the background. While Crowned Heads has a fantastic portfolio, Crowned heads Jericho Hill is one of their stronger pillars.
