Steve Saka’s ‘Meatball Cigar’ is one of the more unique blends he has crafted. The Dunbarton Polpetta also has an interesting story behind it. Originally, this blend was created for an annual meatball challenge at a cigar shop in New Hampshire called Two Guys Smoke Shop. Headed up by the owner, Dave Garofalo, the Meatball challenge needed a special cigar. Enter the Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust Polpetta. The blend was crafted to somewhat be paired with a meatball. It is a very different blend in comparison to Steve Saka’s other creation. Perhaps the biggest difference is the fact it is a Cuban Sandwich. For those who don’t know, a Cuban Sandwich is when a cigar uses a blend of short and long filler leaves.
What is Dunbarton Polpetta? It translates to literally ‘Meatball.’ It sports a smaller vitola and is the only ‘mixed filler’ cigar Saka has produced. Measuring at 4×48, Polpetta features a dark, oily Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper over a Mexican San Andres binder. While the fillers are mixed, it isn’t your normal ‘chopped filler’ cigar. According to Steve, “Polpetta is not a traditional sandwich cigar – (it) has a specific, consistent blend. In addition to the table cuts, we also incorporate some long leaf filler tripa – so it is a far better grade and hybrid style of making this type of cigar. It is an improvement of the process I pioneered many years ago.”
