Dissident Cigars released their newest limited edition for 2024. Last year, announced at the PCA trade Show, Owner and Blender Cynn Coburn brought the Dissident Revolt, a medium plus barber pole in a Robusto vitola. This year a new Robusto is on the block but quite different from the previous. The Dissident Plasmatic Robusto combines flavor and smoothness in a unique combination of tobaccos. It departs a little from the stronger side of Oveja Negra and brings a delightful fullness of flavor with a smooth medium strength; journeying into new flavors not seen yet. To understand it best, perhaps hear what Cynn had to say at the press release:
“Wendy O. Williams is an icon of punk rock decadence & attitude who is known for going against social norms, her over the top on stage antics, and for questioning authority! If that’s not living the life of a Dissident, we don’t know what is! The PLASMATIC is a tribute to her rebellious lifestyle and legacy! The 5.5×52 Dissident PLASMATIC Robusto is a smooth, creamy habano with notes of floral, earth, spice, and nuts. The PLASMATIC arrives in a 20 count box with striking artwork of owner/blender Cynn Coburn and containing a Wendy O. Williams lyric that reminds us that we are responsible for the lives we choose to live!”
The combination of tobaccos is unique and produces a diverse set of flavors not common in Oveja Negra cigars. The dual wrapper consists of an Ecuadorian Sumatra and a Connecticut, somewhat similar to the Black Works S&R. The binder, per the usual, is an Ecuadorian, and the fillers are both from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. Dissident Plasmatic is a one-and-done limited cigar. Much like her first limited blend, the Dissident Molotov, once it leaves the market, it could be some time before we see it again.
I find the flavors fascinating. While I detect the earth, spice, and nuttiness, the floral aspect is pretty prominent, which is somewhat rare. It also brings a touch of smokiness to it, maybe like a charred wood and a hint of eucalyptus. As it burns to the second and final thirds, the creaminess starts to set in. I would definitely suggest pairing the Dissident Plasmatic with a coffee. It works. The new limited is available now and shipping out. It you have the opportunity to try it, I recommend it for any Oveja Negra fan.
