Charter Oak Especiales Pasquale 5.5×48

Many have heard of Foundation Charter Oak, one of the ultimate affordable cigars on the market. However, Nick Melillo, owner and blender, released two new blends on the more premium side. Introducing the Foundation Charter Oak Pasquale and Charter Oak Pegnataro, both in a special line he calls Especiales. Unlike the previous releases, these two highlight the quality and expertise of tobacco curing using higher primings of tobaccos. As the company says, “The two cigars embody the commitment to excellence and artistry that is Foundation Cigar Company.” The Foundation Pasquale uses a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, blended over a Jalapa Nicaraguan binder, and fillers from Jalapa and Esteli.

According to Melellio, he states, “My love for handmade cigars exists only because of my grandfather’s. One was an avid CT Broadleaf smoker and the other loved CT shade. These blends are completely different than the core line of Charter Oak. They are richer and more complex. The Charter Oak core line would have been their everyday cigar and these new blends would be for the weekend or a special occasion. These blends are deeply personal to me, as they honor the legacies of my grandfathers. The CT Broadleaf and CT Shade wrappers represent their distinct personalities, allowing me to celebrate their individuality through exceptional cigars that bear their names.”

The Maduro is released only in one size: The Foundation Charter Oak Especiales Pasquale 5.5×48 Box Press. As I have said time and time again, I am a sucker for box press. Released in twelve count boxes, this cigar has not been available due to scarcity. As I understand it, both Especiales are seasonal releases, much like the company’s Macho Raton cigars. Rolled at AJ Fernandez factory is Nicaragua, the broadleaf is a much richer smoke than the core line Charter Oaks, with notes of dark chocolate, espresso, black pepper, light caramel, and earthy sweetness. Much like the rest of Foundation’s portfolio, Charter Oak Pasquale has a story to tell and takes your palate on an intense journey of Connecticut Broadleaf richness.
