Created in 2007, Warped Cigars has earned a reputation for consistency and quality. Primarily working with tobaccos from the Aganorsa Leaf factory and El Titan de Bronze, the company has a vast portfolio of Cubanistic blends. Founder of Warped Cigar Kyle Gellis built the company on their mantra, “Be exclusively different.” While that slogan holds true, the blends speak volumes about the traditions of cigar making and the signature flavors of Havana and Nicaragua. A shining example is the newly released, limited Warped Bits of Havana Toro. With only 500 boxes produced, this cigar is limited to a select amount of retailers.
Wrapped in a gorgeous San Andres wrapper over binder and fillers from Nicaragua, the Warped Bits of Havana is only released in a 6×52 Toro. Aside from the textured Mexican wrapper, another visually stunning element is the soft box press. There is always something bout a softbox that pops for me. Filled with Aganorsa-grown leaves, the cigar is specifically rolled at the Agricola Ganadera Norteña S.A. factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. The golden accent band is another eye-catcher, resembling traditional selections from Cuba.
In terms of flavor notes. This cigar is different. Very different from a lot of San Andres wrapped cigars on the market. On ignition, hints of light spice are followed by a kind of funk. Not sure how to describe it. When I say funk, it’s not negative, but it is like moistened wood chips or something. As it continues, the funk fades, and a wave of chocolate takes over. A brownie dust/crust rolls in with a cooling mouth texture. Light wood, leather, and baking spice follow. Perhaps the most prominent is the sweet, cocoa notes throughout. I really dig what Kyle did with this blend in all its subtly and flavor. Available now, the Warped Bits of Havana is a great representation of a full bodied, full flavored cigar with a consistent strength that is not overbearing. In essence, this cigar is exclusively different.
