The king of the small gauge might need to have ‘box-pressed’ added to his title. Noel Rojas is a classic example of accentuating the flavor of a cigar by creating complex blends in smaller ring gauges. However, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t know how to blend a 50 or 52 gauge. Quite to the contrary, Noel not only has created blends with it, but they shine beautifully in his portfolio. His newest release, the Rojas Unfinished Business Toro is no exception. Released during the first quarter of 2022, the Unfinished Business toro is a great addition to his dynamic lineup.
When Noel released this cigar, he said, “This is a medium body cigar with lots of flavors.” Some might say medium to full in strength due to the punch of flavor and smoke output. However, this cigar fills the palate with an excellent balance. The only box press in Rojas’ core line, the Unfinished Business Cigar, is released in four different sizes. If you are a fan of a toro, this particular vitola delivers.
Wrapped in a dark, oily Sumatra leaf from Ecuador, the Unfinished Business features a binder from Nicaragua, with fillers from both Nicaragua and Mexico. On light up, notes of Esspresso, cedar, light pepper, and toasted nuts (maybe cashews) fill the palate. The pepper calms as you burn to the second third, and sweeter and creamier notes are under warm tones of sandalwood and earth. Rojas Cigars always present a journey, and the Unfinished Business from Rojas does just that. I suggest pairing it with an espresso and coffee cake for a nonalcohol accompaniment or Yellowstone Bourbon for added sweetness.
