Dark. Oily. Rich. Cocoa. These are the words that come to my mind when I think about the event only Santa Muerte Barrio Santo from Black Label Trading Co. The original Santa Muerte was a limited release (Once a year) from BLTC and featured an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper with fillers from the Dominican, Mexico, and Nicaragua. The ‘event only’ counterpart is much darker, using a Ecudorian Maduro wrapper over similar fillers. The result is a cult following favorite known as the Barrio Santo, translating to Holy Neighborhood.
The Barrio Santo is an event-only cigar, meaning it only shows its face at official Black Label Trading events, much like the NBK Lizard King from Black works Studios. However, sometimes, such as now, you might find it available. As Derek Mathews, brand Ambassador for Black Label says, “Those who enjoy the Santa Muerte Barrio Santo, REALLY enjoy that cigar. It’s much like being a Rush fan. You can’t just be a casual Rush fan.” Blender and Owner James Brown had this to say at it’s release, “I wanted something special for our retailers who host BLTC events and this cigar is exactly that, special.”
Released in 20 count boxes and available only in one size, the Barrio Santo is a 5x5x48 Robusto. The flavor from this cigar is unique and heavy-hitting with notes of espresso, light cedar, earth, dark chocolate, and even raisin. I would put its strength level somewhere around the medium plus range. It is well balanced and truly an experience that captures the Black Label blending style from James Brown. Check out this cigar while it lasts! It’s only here when an event takes place!
