Aganorsa Rare Leaf is a special blend by Aganorsa to highlight the second half of Casa Fernandez’s tobacco specialty. At their factory in Nicaragua, they utilize Corojo 99 and Criollo 98 the most dominantly. Both tobaccos are hybrids of the original Corojo seed indigenous to Cuba. Corojo 99 is perhaps more common, being used as the wrapper leaf for various blends in their production. However, that isn’t to say that Criollo 98 doesn’t get its time in the sun. This is where Aganorsa Rare Leaf comes into play. What exactly is this blend? Aganorsa has put out a press release stating the following about this blend:
“Cuban-seed Criollo 98 dominant and bursting with spice, earth and a touch of sweetness, Rare Leaf utilizes tobaccos which are selected from special lots on our best farms. Normally a cigar using such scarce leaf would be available for a limited time only but by granting access exclusively to our Aganorsa Select Retail Partners we are able to supply Rare Leaf all year long.”
The Rare Leaf Cigar is a Nicaraguan puro using ‘rare’ selected Criollo wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and fillers. The result is a beautiful medium shade looking cigar landing in the medium plus strength range and bursting with notes of coffee bean, spice, cedar, earth, toasted nuts, a slight bready note, and overlayed with sweetness. The Aganorsa Rare leaf is definitely a special blend that Aganorsa has only made available to select accounts across the nation, and offers the opportunity for the Criollo seed to shine through the blend.
