Among the various LCA cigars slated for April, such as the Batista Montenegro cigar and the Sinistro Plata O Plomo – Tiffany Limited Edition, is the Kafie 1901 Grey Wolf cigar. Here at OGT, we have seen Kafie’s blending style before. The New Year Lancero, Año Vieja was his first collaboration with the Limited Cigar Association. It is always great to see boutique, craft blenders continue their journey and relationship with companies like Privada Cigar Club. It’s a moment to have them shine and highlight their talent for creation. The Kafie 1901 Grey Wolf is just that. As usual, here is what Brian Desind and Clark Thorton of Privada Cigar Club have stated:
“Smoothest maduro-wrapped cigar ever. Dr. Gaby Kafie wanted to create for us a blend using a
Mexican San Andres wrapper that was not overpowered by strong fillers and binder, allowing one to
experience the authentic taste of the San Andres leaf. This cigar is proof that a Mexican San Andres
wrapper by itself does not create a strong cigar. The binder is a Honduran Criollo 98, the filers are
all Honduran, and the cigar was rolled at Tabacalera Kafie in Honduras. The 6 x46 cigar is named
after the Mexican Grey Wolf, which is nearly extinct with less than 100 left in the wild.”
The endangered grey wolf is a nod to the rarety of this blend. Mexican San Andres is a favorite wrapper leaf and its unique flavor is allowed to come through with more mild binder and fillers from Honduras. With the complexity of Kafie’s blending style and the sweetness of San Andres, the Kafie 1901 Grey Wolf is a definite cigar to experience.
