Released by Tim Swanson of Cigars Daily and American Viking Cigars, Dama Valada is a truly unique smoke. Rolled and blended in the Plasencia factory, like all American Viking sticks, the Dama Valada uses high primings of Nicaraguan tobacco. When I think of the smoking experience of Dama Valada I think of a balance between sweet and spice. The transitions are smooth and rich with a complexity quite satisfying. The artwork, surrounded by a band of red, makes for a striking appearance on the shelf. Most of the American Viking line uses more neutral colors while Dama Valada boasts a vibrant band, hinting at the demanding attention the blend requires. Once smoked, it all comes together. Tim Swanson states Dama Valada offers the smoker this experience:
“The origin of this cigar begins with a statue of the Mother Mary. The statue is carved out of marble and features Mary wearing a veil. It’s a pretty incredible piece of art that matches the strength of marble with the expertly carved features that show beauty and complexity quite amazing. And that’s exactly how we feel about the Dama Valada.”
The wrapper leaf used on the American Viking Dama Valada is a unique Rosado Oscura Luz (Dark Rosado). Underneath are binder and fillers from Nicaragua offering a medium-plus in strength cigar. Notes I have found are toasted almonds, sandalwood, light caramel, light sweetness, and hints of pepper in the retrohale. Voted by our community at Oak Glen Tobacconist as OGT Cigar of the Year in 2020, Dama Valada is not a cigar to be missed. It has a special place in the humidor and deserves to be smoked.
