The Sobremesa fits very interestingly in the Steve Saka portfolio. While you have the Sobremesa Brulee or the Brulee Blue landing at the mild, creamy side, and the Qi Querida and Triqui Traca on the heavy, full side, the Sobremesa comes in at a medium to medium-plus. One of Saka’s first blends, the Sobremesa is a balance of elegance, flavor, and full-bodied smoke. The wrapper leaf is a darker brown, which might suggest it being very strong, however, the blend is far more balanced than might be perceived.
Sobremesa, “over the table”, has no precise English translation, perhaps because there is no cultural equivalent in the US. It is an idiom used among the Latin culture to describe the leisurely time spent tableside after you have finished dining, but before you rise. Sobremesa is one of life’s simplest, yet greatest pleasures. The cigar’s production rate, while being a part of Dunbarton’s core line, is somewhat dependent on the availability of the tobaccos in its composition. The wrapper is a toothy, oily Ecuadorian Habano over a negro San Andreas binder, and Nicaraguan and USA filler leaves.
Steve Saka says the richness of flavor is highlighted with a creamy core laced with abundant notes of cedar, cocoa, and café, which is punctuated by a tellicherry peppercorn retrohale. Released in various sizes, the OGT favorites would probably be the Robusto, Toro, and 7×50. Keep an eye out for the Sobremesa Cigar from Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust coming soon!
