In the industry there are many boutique brands, many of these are very eye-catching, one such company is Blackbird Cigar. Blackbird pays attention to packaging more than most, and their unique labels and boxes are indicative of this. One such cigar that stands out in their portfolio is the purple-banded Unkind cigar.
Originally, when Blackbird cigar launched they had released this blend under the name of Raven. However, unbeknownst to the owner and blender Jonas Santana, the name Raven had already been taken. When the owner’s lawyer contacted Jonas to tell him to cease and desist, Jonas explains the conversation was very ‘Unkind.’ This sparked his imagination. It didn’t hurt that a flock of ravens also fly under the name of Unkind, hence his cigar received a new name! The blend appeared under a dark purple band with the statement boldly placed across the label.
The cigar is a very unique, medium to medium-full blend using a variety of different tobaccos. Wrapped in a dark, oily Brazilian Cubra leaf, coupled with a Dominican binder, and filed with four different fillers: Criollo 98, HBA, Corojo, and Pennsylvania. The Unkind cigar offers distinct flavors of raisins, dark cocoa, earth, tobacco sweetness, and hints of mild white pepper. Packaged in 21 count boxes, the Unkind cigar from Blackbird is truly a work of art with an interesting backstory.
