Cold Draw: Raisin and chocolate.
First Third – 6.1/10
Black pepper leads early, backed by charred wood, raisin, and earthy notes. There’s also a slight stale quality that takes away from the experience. The burn is good, but flavor consistency is only average. For the price range, the opening third doesn’t impress.
Second Third – 7.1/10
The black pepper settles down considerably. Charred oak and raisin remain the dominant flavors, while the stale note begins to disappear. A slightly unpleasant tanginess develops, along with some very subtle floral notes. Improvement over the first third.
Final Third – 7.9/10
The best part of the cigar. Charred wood and raisin continue, while both the stale flavor and tanginess finally disappear. The profile becomes cleaner and more enjoyable toward the finish.
Overall: The Mage gets noticeably better as it progresses. The raisin and charred wood provide a solid backbone, but the stale and tangy notes in the first two thirds hold it back. Good construction and burn, but considering the price, the flavor experience doesn’t quite live up to expectations.
Overall Flavor Experience: 3.5 stars.
