Big Sky Cigars are one of the newer kids on the block, but they have something special to offer. Originating from Montana, the brand has a unique flare about them. Not least of which is the limited, not so limited, production Cryptid. This is the first installment in a series of ‘Cryptids’ says part owner Brandon Marsh. What exactly is a Cryptid? It is a creature claimed to exist but not proven, like Loch Ness Monster or Sasquatch. This first cigar is eye-catching in its label and a force to be reckoned with in size and flavor.
The Big Sky Cryptid is a 5×60 San Andres Maduro-wrapped cigar with binder and fillers from Nicaragua. Brandon Marsh says, “It is the first cigar I have blended. I am really happy with the way it turned out. It’s a medium to full smoke with full flavor. When I went to the Factory and Talked to Carlos, I told him I wanted something that would melt my face off. After testing a few blends and dialing it back a bit, we had this one. We dedicated the Cryptid cigar to the Flat Head Monster.” Released at the 2022 PCA trade show, the cigar gained some attention due to its performance and presentation.
In terms of flavor, unlike a certain red-bearded friend of mine, I have found it to have deep notes of cocoa, leather, soil, oak, white pepper, and light sweetness. The construction is 10 out of 10 on the draw. The Big Sky Cryptid has definitely made a splash, and it has become a go-to of mine when I am in the mood for something that has a little more kick but great balance.
