LCA Plus Dragon Fruit, the drop for LCA February 2023.
LCA and Blackbird cigars? A winning combo is dropping this month! Introducing the four years aged Gran Robusto from Blackbird cigars, Dragon Fruit. Whenever I think of Blackbird Cigar, I usually think of Brazilian Cubra leaf since that tobacco makes up most of their portfolio. However, that is not the only leaf Jonas Santana likes to blend with. A diverse range of blends have come through his factory, and now, LCA Plus is sporting one that has been aging for four years! The Limited Cigar Association released the following:
“Native to southern Mexico and Central America, Dragon Fruit is an exotic delicacy heralded for
its delicious and distinctive tropical, juicy flavor. This 5.5×54 from Blackbird Cigars delivers
unique and juicy notes reminiscent of the tropical tones found in the actual fruit. The cigar’s
Brazilian Mata Fina wrapper delivers further complementary notes like cocoa, charred breads,
and black pepper, which elevates this cigar to a totally layered experience full of unexpected
flavor dynamics. Besides the Brazilian wrapper, the cigar also features a Mexican San Andres
binder and Nicaraguan fillers with a touch of Dominican filler. Dragon Fruit has been aging for
four years now, and the unmistakable nuance this cigar delivers is evidence of that.”
So although the wrapper is from Brazil, it isn’t a Cubra leaf but a Brazilian Mata Fina. Mata Fina is one of those tobaccos that should be on more cigars. I enjoy the intensity and complexity it brings to a cigar while showcasing a dark, oily appearance. As Usual, the LCA and LCA Plus drop this month is in short supply due to the aging of these cigars. In other words, the LCA Plus Dragon Fruit is four years aged; once it’s gone, it is gone. Get your hands on this blend from Blackbird Cigar while it lasts, and experience the power and subtle nuance of flavors. You won’t be disappointed.
