Cigar Clowns has always been a favorite here at Oak Glen Tobacconist due to their intense flavor, construction, and overall experience. Initially, they started with limited drops several times throughout the year. However, as the company grew, they began creating a portfolio. One of their original limited cigars has returned as a core line in a new size – the Cigar Clowns Geppetto Toro. The first time we saw this cigar was in a 6×52 Toro, and while this new size is just a few gauges down from the original, it looks nearly like a 48 gauge to me. I think the new size of Cigar Clowns Geppetto works better in terms of wrapper to filler ratio. The name is in reference to ‘The Puppet Master’ from the classic fable. In the long journey the Clowns have had, this symbolizes that the group ‘pulls their own strings.’
Let’s talk a little about the blend. As usual, there is a lot of mystique surrounding the composition of the cigar. Often the Clowns play the blend close to the chest; however, I can tell you that Cigar Clowns Geppetto uses an undisclosed Ecuadorian Hybrid wrapper originally from a Brazilian seed. The Binder is a Habano, and the fillers are an aged mix of Nicaraguan and Dominican Republic with several ligeros. According to Joe and Ray of the Clowns, they went heavy on the ligero leaves in the blending process. The band itself shows the likeness of Gepetto, with the Clown’s own twist on the concept.
This cigar offers a whirlwind of flavor. A duality of in-your-face notes from Nicaragua, along with the subtlety of the Dominican Republic, create a symphony of creativity. Rich flavors of pepper spice, popcorn kernels, and baking spice greet you, followed by sweet cream, earth, more baking spice, light caramel, and sweetness. This new makeover 6×50 of Cigar Clowns Geppetto knocks it out of the park. Hats off to the Clowns and their unique take, as always, on the cigar industry and crafting such interesting cigars. Along with Geppetto, check out the Cigar Clowns King of Clowns and the Cigar Clowns Rodeo Clown, which won OGT #3 Cigar of the Year 2024!
