Big Sky Blackfoot Toro 6×54

Big Sky Cigars have made a name for themselves in the boutique world of cigars. They have an entire portfolio, which was previously from Nicaragua and now using Dominican Republic. Their latest addition, the Big Sky Blackfoot, is a collaboration with Chico Rivas and his use of the DR tobacco. Big Sky remains one of the more sought-after brands here at Oak Glen Tobacconist. It is very unique, considering they release all their cigars in a single size. I tend to enjoy this because you get a sense that it is the vitola the blender intended. The Blackfoot is a ‘beefier’ 6×54 Toro, having a gritty, full flavor across a clean finish.

First shown at the PCA trade show in 2023, the Big Sky Blackfoot boasts a dark San Andres Maduro wrapper (and I mean dark.) The oil sheen from the wrapper is gorgeous. That lies over a binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic. Blackfoot is a medium to medium plus strength, full bodied, full flavor profile. While the Big Sky Bighorn has a play of sweet and peppery, the Blackfoot is more earthy and savory.

The Big Sky Blackfoot starts off with minimal spice, followed by an enriched sweetness of cocoa, earth, espresso, and light honey. The sweetness for the Dominican filler definitely comes through, with that added tone of earth. Toward the end of it a savory, almost bbq note takes the forefront. I hate the word smooth, but I find a satisfying smoothness in the consistency of this cigar. The strength is very pleasant and not at any time overwhelming. This, to me, is a late-night, dessert cigar. I would suggest a little dark chocolate and maybe a port to accompany it.

Placed in twenty boxes, the Big Sky Blackfoot is a favorite offering from Oak Glen Tobacconist and an excellent example of a multi-country blend, using tobaccos from Mexican tobacco and the Dominican Republic. While it’s no secret we here at OGT are big fans of Nicaraguan cigars, Blackfoot is one of our favorite Dominican sticks.
