Stallone cigars are a definite favorite here at Oak Glen Tobacconist. Owner and Blender Tony Barrios is an expert at blending Nicaraguan tobacco for flavor, balance, and body. As he says, “It’s much more difficult to blend a balanced cigar then a strong cigar.” When you blend for strength, you are looking for straight power and much of the cigar can be hidden underneath it’s peppery, heavy approach of ligero or even under fermented tobacco. When you have something more balanced, like Tony’s Stallone Habano, he is looking for the flavors to connect and flow together. The Stallone Alazan Habano is an incredible blend that utilizes a Habano leaf from Nicaragua, with Nicaraguan binders and fillers.
The Stallone core line portfolio is comprised six blends called the Cowboy Series. There are offshoots and limiteds that extend the line, but at the heart are those cigars. The Cowboy Series consists of an Ecuadorian Connecticut, Habano, Brazilian Corojo, Nicaraguan Maduro, San Andres Maduro, and Connecticut Broadleaf. The Habano has gotten the most recognition due the complexity and flavor. As Tony says, “The Habano is a really good medium to medium plus with notes of cedar, nutts, spices, and sweetness. It’s a very Cubanesque type flavor.” The Stallone Habano is released in two sizes:
Stallone Alazan Habano Robusto 5 x 52 Box Press
Stallone Alazan Habano Toro 6 x 54 Box Press
Stallone Cigars is an incredible brand that smokes way above its price point. The Stallone Habano is a great example of that. We have seen the Habano appear in our OGT CIgar Society. Released in the 7 year aged Stallone Vault Series, the aged version took on a butteriness and maturity that smoothes out the transitions beautifully, adding a layer on layer of fantastic flavor. If you enjoy the Nicaraguan experience and enjoy a good dynamic range, Stallone Cigar Alazan Habano is a great option. And as I had said, Tony’s portfolio is vast, but each has something amazing to offer!
