Black Star Line Cigars celebrates their 5th anniversary with new blend crafted at the Laz Zona Factory by Espinosa Cigars. Black Star Line Marun is a Sumatra blend brimming with flavor and transitional complexity. The name comes from the Yoruba language in Nigeria. The blend was worked closely with Espinosa Cigars. Owner of Black Star Line Cigar Aric Bey says, “It was great working with Hector Alfonso, the master blender at La Zona. He is a wealth of knowledge and taught me and my team some new things.”
A custom, exclusive size was made just for the members of the OGT Cigar Society. Each month we strive to bring excellence and quality to the community. For every member, we send a 5 pack of an exclusive, blend. The custom vitola of Black Star Line Marun is a 6.5×48 soft box press we have dubbed a ‘slim toro’. Wrapped in a smooth Sumatra wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and fillers, the Marun is crafted at the La Zona facotry in Estelí, Nicaragua. When Aric and I started the project we spoke about several different sizes, however, I felt the richness and flavor would blossom in a ‘thinner’ box press format. However, 48 isn’t that small, and the extra half inch really enhances the smoking duration.
As soon as you light this incredible 6.5×48 you get intense notes of black pepper spice, wood, and leather. This moves into medium roast coffee, ginger snap, a touch more spice, cedar, and medium sweetness. The spotlight of flavor transitions really shines through the thirds. One minute you have a peppery, cedar flavor that moves into baking spice, coffee, and sweetness. I love it.
The Black Star Line Marun 6.5×48 ‘OGT custom’Slim Toro’ is a very small production, and basically the last of it is being sent to the Society. Join the membership this month to guarantee you a five pack, which is mailing out now! Givin the fact that a usual 5 pack is around $62.50 and you get an instant $19.50 discount as a member, it’s a no brainer! I highly encourage you to check out the membership this month and join the community. We will be smoking the Marun together on YouTube Live, Wednesday, July 31st at 6pm pst. Black Star Line Cigars and Espinoza Cigars are two big favorites here at Oak Glen Tobacconist, what better way to enjoy a cigar than to have one crafted by the two powerhouses.
