The ‘Batman’ cigar. Espinosa Murcielago is sometimes given this nickname due to the bat logo on the label. Espinosa Cigars have created one of the best, diverse portfolios in the world of cigars. From the mild and creamy Espinosa La Crema to the bold Espinosa Laranja Azulejo, Espinosa has a cigar for everyone. Perhaps his most popular Maduro is the Espinosa Murcielago. This silky, dark box press combines dynamic flavor, strength, and wonderful balance. Creating a medium plus strength cigar with as much synergy as Murcielago is no easy task.
According to Erik Espinosa, he says, “The Murcielago is a full-flavored cigar filled with hearty Nicaraguan fillers wrapped in a gorgeous Mexican San Andreas Capa Negra wrapper. This beautifully box pressed cigar offers you a deep and rich smoking experience full of cocoa and sweet spices. And the company’s master Blender, Hector Alfonso, says, “We were happy with our Murciélago but it was obvious that what the blend needed was aged tobacco that we don’t have. AJ has been making blends for some classic lines and we thought it was a perfect opportunity to get Murciélago just right.”
The cigar is available in several different sizes:
Espinosa Murcielago Rabito 6.5×46
Espinosa Murcielago Robusto 5×54
Espinosa Murcielago Lancero 7.5×38
Espinosa Murcielago Toro Box Pressed 6×52
Espinosa Murcielago Churchill Box Pressed 7×50
Espinosa Murcielago Gordo Box Pressed 6×60
My favorite size is the Espinosa Murcielago Toro Box Pressed. I feel like this delivers the right balance of strength, flavor, and transitions. Murcielago starts off with a burst of pepper and sweetness. This transforms into a raisin and leather component, with notes of dark cherries, cocoa, and espresso. The cigar gets ‘meatier’ as you smoke it, and finishes with a great savory, raisin note with lingering sweetness and textured spice. Espinosa Murcielago delivers on so many fronts, and continues to be one of Espinosa’s best blends.
