Ozgener Family Cigars Bosphorus B55

Partnered with Crowned Heads Cigars, Ozgener Family Cigars has gotten a fair amount of buzz lately. One of their most popular blends is the Bosphorus B55 Sumatra. Earning its place as #22 Cigar of the Year for Cigar Aficionado, this cigar is both impressive in presentation and experience. Tim Ozgener, Founder of Ozgener Family Cigars, was the original owner of CAO cigars. After a long absence from the industry, he has returned to release several blends that bare his name’s sake. Many might know if for his earlier days in the industry. Partnered with Crowned Heads, Ozgener currently has two lines in his portfolio. Named after a waterway in Turkey, the Bosphorus Strait, the Bosphorus B55 pays homage to his family and background.

In terms of the blend, the Ozgener Family Cigars Bosphorus B55 is a 5.5×55 soft box press. While the corners of this cigar are oval, the flatness is unmistakable. It uses a textured Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper over a double binder of Ecuadorian Connecticut and Jalapa Nicaragua. Double binder is a traditional way of blending companies like Aganorsa and Stallone use. I definitely thinks it adds to the combustibility and overall construction of the cigar. Its Nicaraguan fillers are a blend of varietals from Jalapa, Esteli, and Ometepe. Over all it brings an intense flavor and body wrapped up in a smooth finish.

When it comes to flavor, the rustic nature of this cigar comes out in the light up. Notes of light pepper, sandalwood, and leather are prevalent in the beginning. As the cigar continues, further hints of sweetness, cocoa, wood, and faint coffee tones follow with salted peanuts. This cigar is a great example of a full flavor. I enjoy the subtle transitions while maintaining a clear through line of flavor. In short, this cigar seems to know where it is going.
