If you have heard of Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust, you probably have heard of the Dunbarton PapaSaka. It has made it onto everyone’s top list this year, including Oak Glen Tobacconist. Voted by all of you, Dunbarton Papasaka won the number seven slot. Originally released under one size, the Mi Querida Black was known as the Skakakhan, a 7.25×54 Corona Doble. This is a monster of a cigar. While flavor and construction are up to the Dunbarton standard, several people said it might be too much of a time commitment due to the vitola. Enter the Dunbarton PapaSaka. Unlike the previous size, PapaSaka is a 5 5/8×48, somewhere between a Robusto and a Corona Gorda.
Released at the 2023 PCA Trade Show, Steve Saka says, “Mi Querida Black PapaSaka Measures 5 5/8 x 48 of crazy US Grown Connecticut Broadleaf goodness. All of my children are great, love each of them, but this -one- right now is the absolute apple of my eye.” Wrapped in a gorgeous Connecticut Broadleaf, Mi Querida Black has a Nicaraguan Binder and fillers from Nicaragua, Honduras, and USA. It is that special Honduras leaf that evens out the flavor with a balanced sweetness.
I think the richness in this cigar brings something extra special. It’s creamier and has more cocoa, with notes of pepper, earth, and waves of sweetness. While traditionally Mi Querida red, the Triqui Traca, has always been my favorite, PapaSake is a new contender. I do enjoy the SakaKhan as well, but the concentration of the smaller vitola brings an added richness that is undeniable. With only 3500 boxes made, Dunbarton is trying to keep up with the demand and sending them in stages.
