Chaffiot Cigars Speak No Evil Robusto

In the cigar industry, there are varying sizes of companies, ranging from big heritage brands, to boutique, and even smaller. I have heard many cigar makers use the analogy of the music industry and how it is similar. There are some bands that everyone has heard of, several that are a bit more obscure that might sound familiar, and then some that are ‘underground.’ Similarly, there are larger brands of cigars, some boutique, and then the ‘underground’ brands that many have never heard of. Sometimes these are my favorites! They tend to be the best brands you haven’t tried. Chaffiot Cigars or Chaffiot Collection is one of those brands. There are three main blends that make up their core line and several short runs. In the core is the Chaffiot Speak No Evil, Hear No Evil, and See No Evil. All cigars are released in a Toro and Robusto Format.
Recently I sparked up the Speak No Evil and was greatly impressed. It features a medium shade Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper that is silky and lightly oily to the touch. Underneath is a Nicaraguan Habano binder, with fillers from Nicaragua. I feel like this fits in the middle of the road in terms of strength, the Hear No Evil Cameroon is a bit lighter, and the See No Evil San Andres leans on the stronger side.
At light up, there is a fair amount of pepper on the retrohale. This is something I have come to enjoy as long as it is not overwhelming. If you don’t retro, it would minimized. There are lighter notes to it like lemon zest, brown sugar, and toasted cashew, however deeper tones of vanilla, earth, subtle cream, and charred oak are mixed in. This is a perfect reason I enjoy brands like these, because of the complexities it brings. Some tobaccos aren’t used by bigger scale companies due to the lack of tobacco supply. But when smaller inventories are created, it affords the opportunity to produce unique blends. The Chaffiot Cigars Speak No Evil is a full flavored, medium strength, that seems to pack a bigger punch in the Robusto size. In terms of the brand, it is one of the best brands you haven’t tried yet!
