Black Star Line Cigars is one of the premiere, up and coming brands in the boutique world of cigars. As Owner Aric Bey says it, ‘The companies we work with are enough to insure quality.’ Collaborating with Aganorsa, El Titan de Bronze, and Oveja Negra, Black Star Line cigars have created amazing blends in small batch format. Sometimes, these blends can be difficult to get a hold of due to the small runs they put out. Perhaps one of the most sought after is Lalibela; a dark, San Andres Maduro rolled at Tabacalera Tabsa, in Esteli Nicaragua. Black Star Line Lalibela is a powerhouse of a cigar: a full punch of flavor and strength, with balanced sweetness that carries through the blend. Perhaps my favorite size this has been released in is the 7.5×40 Lancero.
According to the company, “Lalibela is designed to command attention and deliver an immersive smoking journey. Dive into a world where the richness of the Mexican San Andres wrapper takes center stage. Lalibela boasts a full-bodied profile with robust notes that dance on the palate.” Personally, I find the Lancero to be deep with hot chocolate, light cinnamon spice, clove, earth, a creamy center, touches of wood, and a lingering sweetness. With fillers and binder from Nicaragua, the commanding performance echoes with a full bodied smoke. Often times when I light up a Lancero, there are relight issues or some sort of construction malfunction. This is one I haven’t encountered with those types of problems, allowing me to concentrate on the flavor and overall enjoyment.
The Lalibela Lancero was an ultra short run, in fact the amount that Oak Glen Tobacconist has might be the only ones out there at this time! The wrapper to filler ratio brings this cigar to life, adding a concentrated experience brimming with flavor. Aganorsa’s signature tobacco, coupled with the expertise of Black Star Line makes this cigar an incurable journey. Easily this is one of my favorite Lanceros out there, and it begs the attention of anyone who enjoys this particular vitola. Bravo Black Star Line Cigars.
