Caldwell cigars have always been known for flavor over strength. That doesn’t mean you don’t get strength from any of their cigars. In fact, when he teams up with AJ Fernandez, there are several you can find that have an ‘umpf’ to them. However, his newest release might break out of his usual mold! As a annual birthday release, Robert Caldwell usually blends something different. To commemorate his 40th, he just dropped the Caldwell 11/07 Long Live the King Oscuro and Maduro. Both cigars are one hundred percent Honduran tobacco and wrapped in a dark, oily wrapper. But there is a difference between the two. I think it’s best if Robert explains the blend in his own words:
“Well finally we are ready to release these bad boys.” Says Caldwell. “There are two iterations being sold- a maduro and maduro oscuro. Both are 100% Honduran cigars. My history in the industry began with only Honduran tobacco. For my 40th birthday I released a really small quantity of the original 11/07 blend using a classic Honduran Habano wrapper over all Honduran binder and fillers.
This year’s maduro features a habano maduro wrapper over all Honduran binder and filler. The maduro oscuro has more ligero and packs a bigger punch. This 11/07 release is probably our most unique drop so far. They come in one size, a 6×54 Chubby Toro packed into 10 count boxes.”
This is one of his more ‘prestigious’ and most limited releases. They are being sent out in 10ct boxes, making the concept of box buying more digestible. I have always found the complexity and construction of Caldwell’s cigars unique and very enjoyable. This Caldwell 11/07 Maduro brings a newer side out of his cigars; a stronger punch. I am excited to see the differences between the two and the light the ligero charged version, the 11/07 Oscuro. These are available now in very short quantity. Celebrate Caldwell’s 40th and the historical significance of his journey in the cigar industry with the Long Live the King 11/07.
