To kick off the re opening of the cigar club, all members will be sent our Halloween exclusive, Renfield. This is a gorgeous looking cigar coming out of Nicaragua. Many times, I have heard from shops or clubs say things like, “This is an exclusive, and the factory wishes to remain anonymous.” Heck, the entire brand of American Viking said that. While that adds a bit mystique to the cigar, I always thought it was an added sales pitch. Perhaps sometimes it is? However, it feels different when the shoe is on the other foot. In other words, the factory, due to them usually not going direct with retailers, asked not to be mentioned. It sucks because I absolutely love everything this factory puts out, however, they will remain anonymous.
Here is what I can tell you., I came across this blend some time ago and loved it. I am usually a fan of Broadleaf, and this particular blend I found exceptional. Working with them, they created a custom vitola for our Halloween project. While it is bold, some might even say aggressive, it is a also balanced, nuanced, and extremely flavorful. The OGT Cigar Society Renfield is a 6.25×48 Box Pressed “Thin” Toro. It features a very textured Connecticut Broadleaf over a Criollo 98 binder, and fillers from Nicaragua; an assortment of Seco, Viso, and Ligero. The factory that crafted this cigar is been known to perform well with broadleaf, and I think this is one of the best creations.
In terms of flavor notes, Renfield is a medium plus strength cigar, full in body and flavor. At light up there is a dark roast heaviness followed with a punch of pepper and light sweetness on the retro. Notes of dark chocolate, stone fruit, espresso powder, and hints leather and raisin. Some of the more prominent flavors overall are coffee, dark chocolate, and earthy tones. While this cigar isn’t what I would categorize as sweet, there is a noticeable sweetness lingering on the finish. A big focus of the membership is aging cigars, watching them mature and change while they are laid down. This cigar, I anticipate, is going to outshine many other in the aging process.
The OGT Cigar Society is currently open to new members, offering access to this brilliant cigar. Sign up here to become a member and secure your spot while they last.
