Big Sky Cigars is a newerish brand to the cigar world, and its reputation is building, for a good reason. Big Sky Cigars produces each blend in one size, comprising five regular production lines and one small batch. While there are disadvantages to this, there is also a cool positive. You can’t try each blend in varying vitolas; you do know that the size you smoke was the size the blender intended. From the Big Sky Bighorn Maduro to the Madison Habano, there is something for everyone’s palate. One of the more popular blends is their one and only Connecticut, the Big Sky Yellowstone 5×50 Robusto. This cigar is almost unassuming in appearance; however, it puts out in terms of flavor.
Although I tend to enjoy heavier cigars, recently, I have found that morning Connecticut to be especially rewarding. Big Sky Yellowstone fits in that category nicely. It features a golden Connecticut shade grown wrapper from Ecuador over a Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Nicaragua. The challenge always seems to be blending flavorful and perhaps stronger fillers to a chameleon-like wrapper like Connecticut and not coming out bitter on the other side. Big Sky Cigars accomplished their goal. The cigar gets its name, just like the other lines from Big Sky, from the Yellowstone river.
In terms of flavor notes, you may detect a faint hit of pepper on the light up. It isn’t much, but you can pick it out. Overall notes of herbal spice, cream, alfalfa, earth, and light cream or dominant. In a sea of Connecticut blends on the market, Big Sky Yellowstone stands out among them. The flavor transitions, while maintaining its consistent profile, make this a really interesting cigar. It pairs well with a cup of coffee, and able to stand up to it if you prefer yours black.
