Before I get into this cigar, let me say, it hit shops this week. Next week, ALL our members of the OGT Cigar Society are going to be sent a 5 pack of this BANGER cigar. I mean Black Star Line and Black Label Trading Co. doing a team-up? This is a match made in heaven. Of course, I had to send it to all our members. That being said, let’s talk about the NEW NEW Black Star Line Rosewood 1923 Corona.
Owner and Blender Aric Bey informed me of this team-up some time ago, and since then, I have been chomping at the bit to see this come to fruition. As many know, I am a fan of both these companies, and to see them work on a project together is a dream come true! As usual, quality and depth of flavor are at the forefront of Oveja Negra Brands Factory in Nicaragua. This is a special cigar that both Aric and James Brown have been working on for a while, and it debuted at the 2023 PCA Trade Show.
Highlighting a dark San Andres Maduro wrapper over Ecuadorian binder and fillers from Nicaragua and Dominican Republic, the Black Star Line Rosewood is a multi country blend. Released only in one size, the Rosewood 1923 is a 6×46 Corona, true to fashion for both cigar makers, given their love of smaller ring gauge vitolas. All are shipping in gorgeous 20 count boxes stamped with both Black Star Line Cigars and Overja Negra Brands on the bottom. Aric stated, “I have always wanted to work with Oveja Negra. I am a huge fan of their cigars, and actually, James Brown was one of the first people I reached out to when I was looking to enter the cigar industry. I ended up gaining JB’s respect through my hard work and persistence with what I have done thus far with AGANORSA Leaf.”
I had the pleasure of smoking this gem at the trade show, and it was even more than I hoped for. Light up brought a definite spice, balanced and present but not overwhelming. Notes of Esspresso, leather, earth, and dark roast coffee filled the palate. A long finish of lingering sweetness and earth follows. For being a heavier cigar, the retro was silky and enjoyable. The blending of both parties is well represented and an experience that needed to happen. The Black Star Line Rosewood is a cascade of flavor and strength rolled into a thin 6×46.
This cigar is available for order now, and, as I stated, it is also being sent to all members of the OGT Cigar Society. While this isn’t directly a limited edition, it was rolled in a ‘small batch’ format. Once this cigar is gone, it will be some time until we see it return. If you enjoy Black Label, Black Works, and Black Star Line, this cigar is a MUST for you to try. Don’t wait for them to all disappear.
