Last Year, Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust released a new blend called Mi Querida Black or the SakaKhan Cigar. A monster of a cigar, Mi Querida Black was released only in one Vitola, a 7.25×54 Corona Doble. Packaged in 10-count boxes, the SakaKhan cigar utilized a special Honduran leaf in the filler, delivering a bold, meatier smoke with a noticeable sweetness. Steve Saka played with the blend in an effort to recreate a favorite cigar of his no longer in production. The result? It’s one of my top picks from Dunbarton Cigars. It reminded me a little of the Liga Privada No. 9 from Drew Estate. My only concern was the size. While the blend translates well in this massive vitola, it is an undertaking to smoke. This year, however, Steve Saka has reminded us of that with a NEW size! Introducing the Mi Querida Black PapaSaka cigar!
Released at the 2023 PCA Trade Show, Steve Saka had been teasing this cigar for some time. “Mi Querida Black PapaSaka Measures 5 5/8 x 48 of crazy US Grown Connecticut Broadleaf goodness.” Says Saka. “All of my children are great, love each of them, but this -one- right now is the absolute apple of my eye.” Wrapped in a gorgeous Connecticut Broadleaf, Mi Querida Black has a Nicaraguan Binder and fillers from Nicaragua, Honduras, and USA.
I had the opportunity to smoke it, and I agree; I think the richness in this cigar brings something extra special. It’s creamier and has more cocoa, with notes of pepper, earth, and waves of sweetness. The new Mi Querida Black PapaSaka is coming to Oak Glen Tobacconist; in fact, they are en route now! Keep an eye out because, with only 3500 boxes made, Dunbarton is trying to keep up with the demand and sending them in stages. We will see the first wave within a week!
