Dissident Home 2023 Toro 6×52 coming to the OGT Cigar Society

There is a story behind this. Each month, I strive to put the spotlight on a major talent in our industry by sending out a five-pack of either custom blends or vitolas or limited runs by some of the greatest cigar makers of our time. 2023 has kicked off that way with blends like the OGT Stulac Project, the Tony Barrios Silver Blaze, and the AJ Fernandez Fistful of Smoke! This time our choice cigar is from a factory I absolutely love; Oveja Negra in Esteli. Out of the ONB Factory are rolled favorites from Black Label Trading and Black Works Studio. Also produced amongst these staple companies is the brand Dissident. Makers of Soapbox, Bloc, and more, Dissident releases a limited Barberpole each year under the title Home. Released only in one size, the Home 2023 is making its debut, and every OGT Cigar Society member will receive a five-pack of this fantastic cigar. Let me say this cigar isn’t going to be found among the more affordable lines; in fact, this is the most expensive box we have put out yet, but it is beyond worth it for all our members to experience it! How did this come about? Let’s get into it.

Mallory and I visit Las Vegas each year and attend the TPE trade show. We met the new owner and blender of Dissident Cigars, Cynn Coburn. She and her husband, Josh, have taken the brand by the horns and have been increasing its awareness. At the show, Cynn gifted me the Home 2021, released two years prior, ensuring me that this year’s version was in the process of shipping. I was afforded the oppertunity to enjoy the Home but with two years of age on it. To say I was impressed with the way this blend aged is an understatement. The cigar was easily my favorite I smoked at the whole show! Being that aging cigars are a big part of the Society, I had to offer this once-a-year limited to all our members! The following day, Mallory and I met with Cynn and secured our allocation for the subscription box! Priced at $14 msrp a single, the Home 2023 is our way of saying thank you to all our members for their support in the Society’s evolution!

Let’s talk flavor notes and what to expect. The Dissident Home 2023 is a 6×52 barberpole wrapped in an Ecuadorian Maduro and Corojo Wrapper, with a binder from Ecuador and fillers from Nicaragua. It offers a medium strength, full bodied, full flavored smoking experience with notes of espresso and faint baking spice, and waves of leather, earth, perhaps bitter dark chocolate, and lingering sweetness on the finish. I have paired this with a number of things, however, I think my favorite has been the Michters Sour Mash. The whiskey plays well with the deeper notes of the cigar.
