That new, new flo from BLTC. Black Label Trading Company is kicking off 2023 with a new addition to its core line. In a world of limited-production cigars, and don’t get me wrong, I love new stuff, but it is cool to see an already strong core line get added to. Introducing the newest line to be added to the black sheepfold, the Black Label Trading Co. Santa Muerte. There is a cigar under that name that already exists called the Santa Muerte Barrio Santo; however, that cigar is a different blend and an event-only cigar. Featuring a dark Habano Maduro wrapper, over fillers from the DR, Mexico, and Nicaragua, the NEW Santa Muerte cigar is its medium counterpart. Announced earlier this year, Owner and Blender James Brown released the following press statement:
“This is a great addition to our core-line. It was last released in 2018 as a limited release, and we have had many requests for its return. We revamped the artwork giving it a white background with added silver details in a white box. It’s a medium-bodied cigar with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. It features six filler tobaccos which create a very unique and rich flavor profile. You experience layer upon layer of coffee, malt, spice and cocoa.”
I was fortunate to try it at the tpe 2023 trade show and had to go back asking for seconds. The Black Label Trading Santa Muerte features an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over an Ecuadorian Binder and fillers from Nicaragua, DR, and Mexico San Andres. Released in three sizes, the Santa Muerte is available in a 4.75×52 Robusto, 5.5×48 Corona Gorda, and 6.5×42 Petite Lancero. This cigar is available now, and I would suggest checking it out; it has an excellent medium-strength body with notes of cinnamon, coffee, cocoa, wood, and a pleasant, lingering spice. I would suggest pairing it with a Plantation Rum if you want to draw out the sweetness or an Old Forester Statesman.
