So last week, when I wrote an introduction to this month’s society subscription cigar, some of the info was purposely left out, or should I say, purposely teased. However, I wanted to give a more in-depth introduction to this cigar. As I mentioned, our March release is called “A Fistful of Smoke.” This is a rich tasting, medium strength Habano blended by AJ Fernandez. This cigar has so many elements I enjoy from AJ’s blending style, and they really come together after being aged for two years before the release. However, before we get into the blend, let’s talk about the art and the name.
My brother, Andrew Drazin, is an artist who creates original works in the traditional style of pencil and marker. He has produced the art for our stickers, ‘The Smoking Monsters,’ as well as the band for our first Halloween Exclusive last year Nosferatu. I approached him last year about a concept piece for the man with no name. At the time, I had been searching for a Habano cigar, rustic, spicy, and smoke production that would deliver. After a few renditions, I visited my brother, and he said, “I have something to show you.” He revealed to me his piece of ‘The Dragon with no name,” Depicting a bearded dragon dressed in a sarape and sombrero, six shooter in hand. I loved it from the start and told him, this is our picture for our cigar.
Hence the first installment of our “Dragon with no name” was born under the title “A Fistful of Smoke.” Rest assured; two other cigars will be coming to complete the trilogy. I had the cigar before the art, and they worked perfectly together. Who better to kick off the first of three with than AJ Fernandez. As stated in the previous article, this cigar has amazing construction, balance, and flavor. I pick up notes of spice and sweetness right off the bat. Waves of rustic sandalwood, toasted pie crust, and a faint almond taste inhabit the first third. As the cigar continues, a steady underlying sweetness is consistent throughout the experience.
I am so happy and proud to send this to all our subscription members and for them to experience the first installment of the “Dragon with no Name,” A fistful of Smoke. This cigar is a small batch production exclusive to the OGT Cigar Society. A phenomenal smoking experience, complex and balanced, and I would suggest a pairing of Yellowstone Bourbon or a Calumet 15. If you want more sweetness from the blend, perhaps an El Dorado 15 rum or a Balvenie Carribean Cask. If I think of a ‘anytime’ cigar, this one definitely delivers.
