Valentines Day is just around the corner, and soon love will be in the air. However, the Limited Cigar Association, or the LCA, doesn’t quite have love on the brain. Instead, this month’s special drop is a reference to the massacre that took place on February 14th, 1929. That morning, four men, two of which were wearing police uniforms, escorted the seven victims into a garage on 2122 North Clark Street, in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago’s North Side. Two of the weapons that gunned down the victims were confirmed as Thompson 45s. Several of the bodies were identified as men in George “Bugs” Moran’s North Side Gang. Why is this brought up? The cigar coming from the LCA this month bears the name of this event. The Limited Cigar Association released the following statement:

“February 14, 1929: the most infamous Valentine’s Day in history. Gang violence certainly
wasn’t anything new in 1929, but the scale of the Saint Valentine’s Day massacre, ordered by Al
Capone, in order to take out seven of George “Bugs” Moran’s North Side Gang mobsters, was
unprecedented even by Chicago’s gritty standards. The massacre resulted in Moran losing
control of the North Side, aided in Al Capone’s eventual incarceration, and cemented the Tommy
gun in history’s eye as the mob’s favorite weapon. Massacre is a 6.5×46 lonsdale featuring an Ecuadorian Habano Maduro wrapper and Nicaraguan filler and binder. Delivering a rich, full-bodied, and complex smoking experience, Massacre is two years aged, and was the very first cigar to come out of Tabacalera Annex, AJ Fernandez’s factory for Privada.”
