Who invented the concept of Cigar of the year? Was it CA’s magazine? They certainly made it more mainstream. But no, that credit belongs to a gentleman from New Hampshire. Mr. Dave Garofalo of Two Guys Smoke Shop and the ever-popular podcast, the Cigar Authority. Over thirty years ago, he created the idea of an official top ten list. This way, there would be a pause and reflection on the year’s new releases and a spotlight on the exceptional ones. The idea was such a hit that the bigger magazines published it on a larger scale.
Today, it seems that EVERYONE has a top list for the year’s end. Oak Glen Tobacconist is no exception. However, the process and criteria vary between who is making a list. Dave’s process is very different than my own. Our way is to have it 100% crowd-sourced, with customers and friends voting on a ballot for the top three cigars they smoked this year, which had to have come from the OGT humidor. The OGT Cigar of the Year 2022 was taken by Chaffiot Collection’s See No Evil Lonsdale, an exclusive made just for our subscription members, the OGT Cigar Society. Our other picks included blends like Black Label Trading Morphine, Cigar Clowns 5150, Foundation Olmec Maduro, and several others.
Join us tonight for a live show with Mr. Garofalo on our Youtube Channel. The show starts at 6pm CA time/9pm est. We are talking cigars, top lists, the industry, and more.
