Winter is not coming; it has arrived. Usually, my palate turns to darker cigars to stand up to the cold. Here in Oak Glen, we get all four seasons: the scorching heat, the golden leaves of fall, the spring showers, and, yes, even the winter snow. Whether it is the pipe or cigars, I usually enjoy darker blends. After kicking off the new year with Part 1 of our Raw Blending Series: the Paul Stulac Project, we are following up with Part 2, this time from Tony Barrios. If you have smoked something from Stallone Cigars before, you know how special this cigar is. Last year we had the opportunity to feature his 7-year aged vault series, experiencing his original blends that had been rolled before the inception of his company. In February 2023, a custom cigar came from Barrios.
Introducing the custom Stallone Cigars Silver Blaze, the perfect wintertime, full flavored Maduro. Named after the Sherlock Holmes short story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Silver Blaze is also a nod to Tony’s history of breaking horses. Last year Tony and I had been talking about doing something special for the members of OGT Cigar Society. “I spent a lot in the 100% premium aged tobacco in this blend.” Barrios said. “The blend breakdown is:
Wrapper: US Connecticut Broadleaf Ligero
Binder: Double Binder (Esteli & Jalapa)
Filler: Esteli, Jalapa & Jalapa. Inside is Criollo 98, Corojo 99 , Corojo 2012 and Habano 2000 Seeds . All from Nicaragua aged 5 years before rolling. 5 months aging after rolled.”
Now, as it reaches all our Society members, it nearly has a full year of age. This cigar offers an unparalleled experience of full flavor, full-bodied, and only medium in strength. A perfect balance and a complexity that coats the palate. As far as flavor notes go, there is a swarm of cocoa up front, roasted nuts, touches of leather, light spice, and a consistent creamy center with hints of sweetness. This cigar, I feel, is approachable by anyone, not overwhelming a new smoker but also satisfying one who leans toward stronger cigars. I am so proud to offer everyone such an expertly crafted cigar this month, and I can’t wait to share it with all of you. Here at OGT Cigar Society, we are not playing around. By no stretch of the imagination, this cigar would retail at that $15 mark, and everyone in our membership gets five of them! If you are not a member yet, jump on this month’s drop! You will not be disappointed.
