I can’t believe I haven’t written about this, especially since I was after it for so long. This blend is definitely on my favorites list. It is no secret that here at OGT I am a fan of Tony Barrios’ blending; Stallone cigars are rich, full-flavored blends of superb quality. Typically you will find carefully aged tobaccos in his blends that smoke way above their price point. What happens when you combine Stallone cigars and Privada Cigar Club? As the dust settles and the tobacco is rolled, a 6×48, oily cigar called the Mad Monkey Toro remains.
A year prior to the release of the Privada Core line, I had the opportunity to smoke the Mad Monkey. I instantly fell in love. Using a dark Nicaraguan Habano Wrapper, double Nicaraguan Binder, and Nicaraguan fillers, this Nica puro delivers both in flavor and strength. The signature characteristics of a Stallone cigar are found in this blend, with extra nuance and transition of flavor. However, my idea to carry this in the OGT humidor was met with a roadblock when I learned it was a very limited product. Each month LCA came around, I would as Clark, “Any chance of getting the Mad Monkey?” Each month he would apologize and tell me, unfortunately, there wasn’t enough. However, that finally changed when he informed me that Privada had formed a plan for it. He told me to be patient. I tried. Finally, the announcement of the Privada Core line was given! Favorite cigars like The Good Life, 1491, and yes, even Mad Monkey Toro became available!
The Stallone Mad Monkey Cigar is now available here at OGT. If you enjoy Tony Barrios’ blending and the unique cigars that Privada Cigar Club spotlight, I would advise you to look into this cigar. It doesn’t disappoint.
