One of the first releases from Black Works Studio was in the form of a petite Panetela. Among the unique sizes found within the portfolio was the 5 x 38 Rorshach cigar. Rorschach boasts a very textured, even oily Habano wrapper from Ecuador. True to Black Works fashion, a binder and fillers are found in Nicaragua. Rorschach is one of the company’s slept-on, lesser-known blends, perhaps due to its size. While the petite vitola offers a rich wrapper flavor, it isn’t usually everyone’s go-to. However, owner and blender of Black Works, James Brown, announced some news at the 2022 PCA trade show that might give Rorschach the notoriety it deserves. Along with new blends from Oveja Negra Brands like Suave Maduro and the Killer Bee Shaolin, a press release was given that adding to the portfolio would be the new vitola for Rorschach. Along with the original Petite Panetela, the cigar will now be offered in a 4.5 x 48 short Robusto.
“Rorschach has become one of our most popular cigars, and fans of this cigar will enjoy it in a short Robusto,” said Brown in a press release. This is only speculation on my part, but I feel like the increased size perhaps remains decently small to hold the integrity of flavor balance. I was fortunate enough to try the short Robusto at the trade show and was very impressed.
All three releases are coming to Oak Glen Tobacconist: the New Killer Bee Shaolin, the Suave Maduro from House of Emilio, and the Rorschach Short Robusto. And while new blends and experiences are normally what steal the spotlight, Rorschach deserves it just as much as the others. Once you smoke the newly released Robusto, you will see what I mean.
